Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of year to take the Peru Amazonian Travels tour?

This package can be enjoyed year-round, but the ideal time to fully experience the Amazonian adventure is between April and November, when rainfall is lower and access routes are easier. During the dry season, river levels are lower, making it easier to explore by boat and observe wildlife. If you visit during the rainy season (December to March), you’ll experience a greener, more vibrant jungle, though some trails may become more challenging.

What type of accommodation is included during the tour?

Throughout the journey, travelers stay in carefully selected hotels of superior tourist category or eco-lodges in the Amazon rainforest. In cities like Lima, Arequipa, Puno, and Cusco, accommodations provide all modern amenities, while in the jungle, lodges are built from natural materials and equipped with essential comforts like hot water, mosquito nets, limited electricity, and safety measures to ensure an authentic yet comfortable stay.

What kind of activities are included in the Amazon rainforest portion of the tour?

In the Amazon rainforest, guests enjoy guided walks along natural trails, nighttime excursions to spot caimans, visits to macaw and parrot clay licks, boat rides along jungle rivers, wildlife and plant observation, and ecological talks led by expert guides. These activities combine adventure, education, and deep connection with nature for an unforgettable experience.

Are any vaccinations or health precautions required to enter the Peruvian Amazon?

No vaccinations are mandatory to visit the Peruvian Amazon, but it’s strongly recommended to get a yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before your trip, especially if you’ll be traveling to more remote areas. Bring high-strength insect repellent, sunscreen, and follow your guide’s instructions on safe food and water consumption during the excursions. Staying hydrated and using lightweight clothing also helps prevent heat-related discomfort.

Is this tour suitable for families or older travelers?

Yes, this tour is designed to accommodate different types of travelers. The more demanding activities are optional and can be replaced with lighter excursions or rest periods. Families with children, couples, and senior travelers can all enjoy the experience without issues, as long as they follow the guides’ recommendations and inform the staff in advance of any specific needs or limitations.

What type of transportation is used throughout the trip?

Transportation depends on the region. Domestic flights are used for long distances (such as Lima–Arequipa or Cusco–Puerto Maldonado), first-class tourist buses for overland journeys, and safe motorized boats equipped with life jackets for river excursions in the Amazon. All transfers, flights, and local rides are well-coordinated to ensure safety, comfort, and punctuality throughout the itinerary.

Does the package include guided tours in all destinations?

Yes, every destination in the itinerary includes professional local guides who speak multiple languages. These guides share historical, cultural, and environmental insights to help visitors better appreciate each site. In the Amazon, naturalist guides accompany travelers, explaining the biodiversity and ecological significance of the rainforest ecosystem.

What should I pack for this trip?

Pack lightweight and breathable clothing for the warm Amazon regions, and warmer layers for higher-altitude destinations like Cusco and Puno. Bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain poncho, hiking shoes, camera, flashlight, and any personal medication. For daily excursions, use a small backpack, leaving larger luggage at your hotel or lodge when needed. Waterproof bags are also useful to protect electronics during river trips.

Can I customize or modify parts of the itinerary?

Yes, this tour can be customized according to your interests, schedule, and preferences. You can add extra days in Lima, Cusco, or the Amazon, or rearrange the itinerary based on your international flights. Simply contact our reservations team in advance to adapt the program without affecting logistics or coordinated services.

What level of physical fitness is required for this tour?

The “Peru Amazonian Travels” package is suitable for travelers with a moderate fitness level. No prior hiking or adventure experience is necessary, although some days involve light walking and high-altitude travel. We recommend spending a day or two acclimatizing before engaging in more active excursions in Cusco or Puno. Travelers with health concerns can request a slower-paced itinerary or extra rest time if needed.
